چکیده

1 We describe experiments in recognizing a person's situation from only a wearable camera and microphone. The types of situations considered in these experiments are coarse locations (such as at work, in a subway or in a grocery store) and coarse events (such as in a conversation or walking down a busy street) that would require only global, non-attentional features to distinguish them.

Enabling Implicit Interaction in Wearable Applications: Don’t use sensors only for one task

Although, today, a broad range of sensor technology is already available that ranges from simple temperature sensors to complex acceleration sensors, recognizing context in wearable computing is still challenging. It involves the analysis, filtering, clustering and classification of sensor signals which are getting even more complex when sets of sensors are used to recognize context. However, t...

Identifying Important Action Primitives for High Level Activity Recognition

Smart homes have a user centered design that makes human activity as the most important type of context to adapt the environment according to people’s needs. Sensor systems that include a variety of ambient, vision based, and wearable sensors are used to collect and transmit data to reasoning algorithms to recognize human activities at different levels of abstraction. Despite various types of a...

Multi-sensor context-awareness for wearable computing

In this thesis we address the problem of perception, modeling, and use of context information from body-worn sensors for wearable computers. A context model is an abstraction of the user’s situation that is intelligible to the user, perceivable by sensors, and on the right level of abstraction, so that applications can use it to adapt their behavior. The issues of perception, modeling, and use ...

Actions in Context: System for People with Dementia

In the next forty years, the number of people living with dementia is expected to triple. In the last stages, people affected by this disease become dependent. This hinders the autonomy of the patient and has a huge social impact in time, money and effort. Given this scenario, we propose an ubiquitous system capable of recognizing daily specific actions. The system fuses and synchronizes data o...

Context–Aware Multi–Modal Notification for Wearable Computing

We propose to use context information obtained from body–worn sensors to mediate notifications for a wearable computer. In particular we introduce a model which uses two axes, namely personal and social interruptability of the user in order to decide both whether or not to notify the user and to decide which notification modality to use. Rather than to model and recognize the complete context o...
